High blood pressure: Eating this fruit will help reduce readings

More than a quarter of people in the UK have high blood pressure, according to the NHS. High blood pressure risks can be lowered by making some diet or lifestyle changes. If not treated correctly, high blood pressure will put extra strain on the blood vessels and vital organs. You could reduce your risk of deadly hypertension symptoms and signs by eating this particular fruit.

Berries are so much than just juicy flavour. Berries are packed with polyphenols which is a natural plant compound that is very good for the heart.

In a study with US national library medicine national institute for health looked at participants who experience improvements in their heart health including their blood pressure 

In another study with BMJ, it looked at what happens to blood pressure when consuming polyphenol-rich foods such as berries and the association with a reduction in cardiovascular diseases.

All participants completed the four week trial and with one group consuming two portions of fruit and vegetables and the other group avoiding berries and dark chocolate.

The study proved that increasing the polyphenol content of the diet via consumption of fruits and vegetables, berries and dark chocolate resulted in a significant improvement in cardiovascular risk in hypersensitive participants. 

Other ways to help reduce blood pressure readings:

Exercise regularly

Exercise is one of the best things you can do to lower high blood pressure.

When a person regularly exercises it makes their heart stronger and it becomes more efficient at pumping blood. This in turn lowers the pressure in the arteries.

Try meditation and deep breathing

These stress reduction techniques activate the parasympathetic nervous system.

This system is engaged when the body relaxes which lowers the heart rate ad lowers blood pressure.


Eat more potassium-rich foods

Potassium helps the body get rid of sodium and ease the pressure on blood vessels. To get a better balance of potassium to sodium in your diet, focus on eating fewer processed foods and more fresh, whole foods.

Berries are rich in polyphenols and this helps lower blood pressure and the overall risk of heart disease.

The NHS said: Simple lifestyle changes can help reduce high blood pressure, although some people may need to take medicine as well.

Your GP can advise you about changes you can make to your lifestyle and discuss whether they think you’d benefit from medicine.”
